The History of

Back in 2015, In Lords Café in the Dartmoor village of Princetown, two friends, Mandy and Dawn sat on a comfy sofa, enjoying cakes and cups of tea. Whilst crocheting and knitting they wondered how they might involve other people into this world of friendship and creativity. They invited other ‘crafty’ villagers to join them.

When Lord’s Café closed, they moved into the local church hall and were soon joined by talented crocheter Mary and, after a while, more locals joined in. The small group were joined by Sheila, Kathy, Pamela, Lynne and Tammy and took over the running of the established annual Easter arts and craft fair, held at the local primary school.

As a result of the craft fair, the group’s numbers increased and were joined by Plymothians Jo and Marcel and a few others, apologies if we can’t recall all the names now. After the launch of our Facebook page on 26th October 2015, the Divas’ numbers grew and opened the doors to a wider group of crafters from Plymouth, Tavistock and beyond.

Over the years, our numbers have grown and we have been joined by our ‘Divos’ who have added woodwork and woodturning to the wide range of wares offered by our artists and crafters.

We are now a well-established, not for profit organisation, raising funds for the local primary school, other community charities and contributing to some larger appeals including, more recently, Shelterbox and support for Ukraine.
We still do our regular fairs at Princetown Primary School and other venues.
